Apologies, everyone, for the lapse in column last week. So much has happened and has been happening that it seems difficult to know where to begin. Please bear with us if everything seems disjointed!
First of all, we want to thank everyone who helped to make our Summer Learning Program a success. Despite our limited range of dates, we offered more program components than ever before, and had a record number of participants. We are looking forward to planning for next year!
On Thursday, August 13, patrons and friends from around the Southern Tier Library System attended the Town Board Meeting to show support for the Greenwood Reading Center and to ask the board for a ‘stay of execution’ on our behalf. Even though the town board remained unmoved by the requests, our hearts were warmed and our resolve strengthened by the outpouring of support. Even though we need to close the library temporarily while we look for our new, permanent space, we are determined to continue to provide the services that our patrons deserve from us.
It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that our last day of regular services will be August 24. After that, we will need to pack up our printer, computers, and everything else. On August 25 beginning at 2:00pm, we will have a packing party. Anyone that wants to come help us pack up will be welcome, indeed!
Final thoughts: Thank you to everyone who visited the library during Greenwood Community Day, gave new homes to books that needed one, and donated so very generously! Don’t forget the Mystery Meal at the Community of Christ Church on August 27th at noon. We have no intention of giving up time with our friends!
